What is the PVG Scheme?

The Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme helps ensure that people who are unsuitable to work with children cannot do so.

Are PVG Checks From A Previous Employer Valid?

An employee’s or potential employee’s PVG certificate from another employer will not give the Nursery up to date disclosure information, such as new vetting information that may have been added, a barring from working with children, or a consideration for listing. Without directly linking the Nursery to an employee’s PVG Scheme membership, your business will not receive ongoing notifications about the employee’s suitability to work with children.

The Care Inspectorate

Nurseries are registered and regulated by the Care Inspectorate, who wish to be assured that they can be:

• Satisfied about the fitness of nursery providers and managers of registered services.
• Ensure that providers of nursery services implement the PVG Scheme appropriately as part of the safe recruitment of the managers and staff of day care

• Staff working in the roles of Nursery Nurse, Early Years Assistant, Nursery Support Worker and Nursery Practitioner
• Positions who have direct line management responsibility of these positions are also eligible for PVG Scheme checks
