What is the PVG Scheme

The Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme helps ensure people who are unsuitable to work with children and protected adults cannot work with these vulnerable groups.

PVG Certificates from a previous employer

PVG certificates from another employer do not give the practice up to date disclosure information such as a consideration for listing, a barring or any new vetting information that may have been added. You should be aware that without linking your practice to an employee’s PVG Scheme membership by doing a PVG Update check, your practice will not receive notifications from Disclosure Scotland about the employee’s suitability to work.

Which roles are eligible for Disclosure Scotland checks in GP practices?

There are several different job roles within a GP practice and not all of them are eligible for the same type of check.

The following roles are eligible for a PVG Scheme check:

• Doctor
• Nurse
• Healthcare Worker
• Positions who have line management responsibility of the above positions

Additionally, non clinical staff such as a Medical Receptionist are eligible for a Standard Disclosure

How do I request a PVG Check for my GP practice employee?

You can obtain a PVG Scheme check for the following GP positions - Doctor, Nurse, Healthcare Worker, or positions who have line management responsibility of these, from Scottish Disclosures. We can progress online PVG Checks on your preferred candidate or a PVG update on your existing employee.
